Anxiety is the fact that every year the statistics getting worse and more and more cases of infertility are registered in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.

Studies show that the birth rate in many respects depends on our lifestyle. A well-balanced diet rich in nutrients, some of which are particularly important for normal fertility, is able to provide good health and proper functioning of the reproductive system.

Nutrition and men's fertility

In men, there is most often a decrease motility and viability of sperm. The reasons for this may be associated with the development of civilization - namely, the increasingly wide application of different household chemicals and constant exposure to oxidative stress.

Scientists estimate that 30-80% of cases of impaired fertility in men can be caused by sperm damage due to oxidative stress. (They say that over the past 40 years, content of spermatozoa in male sperm decreased "in normal" from 60 to 20 million!).

For this reason, men diet should include products having antioxidant properties - vitamins C and E, as well as acai berries, which are characterized by the highest antioxidant capacity among fruits; these substances protect the genetic material from oxidation. Vitamin C also helps to regenerate oxidized molecules of vitamin E.

(Recommendation to eat acai berries sounds, of course, very exotic, but today this product is available in any country - if not in its original form, then in the composition of dietary supplements, for example, Organic Acai, which is a 100% acai berry juice, has retained all of their freshness and beneficial properties).

Did you know that in a study conducted on a group of men, there was an increase in sperm motility after supplementation with vitamin E, and dietary supplements that contain vitamin C, have improved the quality of sperm? Furthermore, statistically significantly better results were obtained in the group receiving 1000 mg of ascorbic acid, compared with the group receiving 200 mg.

In addition, the men should enrich their diet with L-arginine and selenium. L-arginine is an amino acid that plays a key role in the synthesis of nitric oxide, which improves the blood supply to organs, including reproductive. Selenium not only helps you to protect yourself against oxidative stress, but also contributes to the normal process of spermatogenesis.

Incidentally, inhabitants of many continental countries feel selenium deficiency; and it has been found that selenium in conjunction with vitamin E improves the quality of sperm damaged by oxidative stress. In combination with zinc, it has beneficial effects on endurance, strength and motility of spermatozoa, since zinc helps to maintain normal reproductive function, providing the synthesis of DNA and proteins.

Nutrition and female fertility

In women, infertility can be due to hormonal disturbances that cause, in particular, problems with ovulation. Often there is the so-called polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) - a metabolic disorder, accompanied by insulin resistance, which increases the risk of developing diabetes. It is therefore important for women to include in their diet the acai berries (Organic Acai), which have the ability to reduce fasting indicators of blood glucose and insulin, as well as blood glucose levels after eating.

Every woman intending have a baby should take care of proper maintenance of the thyroid gland with iodine and selenium, as well as to lose weight. Since all of these are factors that may affect fertility!

Do not forget also about B-group vitamins:

  • vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is involved in protecting cells from oxidative stress, maintains normal iron metabolism, the need for which increases in pregnancy by 50%;
  • vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) is necessary for the proper production of red blood cells and cell division. Its deficiency can lead to disorders of ovulation and implantation of the embryo, and also increases the risk of birth defects of the neural tube.

  • folic acid, which promotes the growth of maternal tissues during pregnancy, is necessary for normal blood production and amino acid synthesis, is involved in cell division, provide proper metabolism of homocysteine, postpones feeling of tiredness and lack of energy, increases the resistance and supports psychological functions;
  • vitamin D, which is involved in cell division processes, helps to maintain bone health and supports the immune system.
