Most people know oregano as the popular culinary seasoning. Few people know that you can use it every day, not only because of its excellent cooking qualities. Thanks to the many healing properties, oregano used in folk medicine since ancient times.
The main active component of oregano are essential oils (3%), such as thymol, borneol, carvacrol which make them an excellent antimicrobial effect. In addition, the oregano is composed of flavonoids, which are powerful antioxidants that promote the protection of cells against free radicals. Oregano also contains acids, sterols, vitamins A and C, as well as some useful trace elements. Compared to traditional forms (herbs, dried plants), in oregano oil, these active substances are present in concentrated form.
Therefore, oregano oil, along with powerful antimicrobial effects, has also a strong antioxidant properties. Besides oral use, it can be used for small wounds and bruises, insect bites, and in diluted form - for mouthwash and inhalation.
